Watching films is an important part of education to learn various things around the world. While some people believe that the benefits of watching imported movies outweigh those of domestic ones, I disagree with this view for the following reasons.
On one hand, it is undeniable that the growing trend of globalization has made it more significant to watch international movies. First, foreign films play an essential role in letting people know about different cultures and lifestyles. In other words, they are useful to know regional food and clothing that are distinct from their own ones. Thus, watching foreign movies is important to maintain cultural diversity and peaceful relationships with people across borders. Secondly, international films are valuable sources to learn foreign languages. In fact, the speaking and listening abilities of different tongues can be improved with the help of subtitles. As a result, people can take advantage of them to promote cultural diversity and language.
On the other hand, the prevalence of globalization does not ignore the importance of national films. Domestic films should be promoted especially among the young because of the dominating effect of Western cultures. Therefore the authority of a country should put more emphasis on domestic films for the prosperity and reassurance of own culture. For example, “Maikosan,” a traditional Japanese movie, illustrates the beauty of its cultures such as kimono, hot springs, and washitsu. National films are dependable not only to know unique artefacts but also to learn social manners and morality that are regarded as valuable in the country.
In conclusion, international movies are reliable sources of learning different cultures and languages. However, national movies play a fundamental role in teaching valuable lessons to citizens that have been passed down for a long period of time.
