In this exponential epoch, people depend mostly on technologies which make their tasks easier. This change has a greater affect on libraries in most of the countries. Nowadays people relay mostly on computers for reading which have its own positive and negative impacts.
To start with, in earlier times libraries had a major role in one’s life as they depend on books from their very young age for education. It provides access to books, journals and other resources to people who cannot afford technological facilities or the cost of books. Besides, it is a place where our local history and culture is preserved through archives that ensures the knowledge to our future generations. Furthermore, as it serves as a community resource it can benefit the people at all age groups in a locality. To illustrate, it can be utilized as a space for study for the students and also for hosting workshops, reading programs, job assistance and more.
However, in spite of all these positives libraries also have some disadvantages. They require significant public funding for staff, infrastructure, books and maintenance. And also, they may lack in modern facilities which causes a shift towards computers.
On the other hand, computers play a crucial role in the present situation. It is very easy for the public to access any information anytime anywhere with the help of internet. People can not only save their time but also collect accurate information requiring their needs. To give an example, students who wants information about the latest technological advancements in the world can acquire it effortlessly whereas libraries cannot provide such details. In contrast to this, being contingent on computer for more time can lead to several problems. It can reduce the interest towards reading as it accelerates more stress as well as chronic health issues. Also, the possibility of spread of wrong information through irrelevant websites is more.
In conclusion, in my opinion people should relay on libraries more than on computers because it has the ability to encourage reading habit in individuals and also can reduce stress despite of its negative impacts. Even though computers provide flexibility in reading they can sometimes create distraction in many people.
