Some individuals suggest that urban governments should invest a sufficient amount of money to increase cycling in cities while another group of people think that cities should improve public transport system.
To begin with, at the current time, the city governments are trying to introduce bicycle use around the world. This trend has been first introduced in 1960s, in Netherlands. Ecologists are worried about problems with air pollution that mainly harmed by emissions of the cars such as trains and buses. Thereby, by using more and more bicycle around the cities can help to decrease issues with air pollution. For example, in Netherlands, 50% of urban citizens use bicycle for movement around the city. This action dramatically has helped to reduce environmental problems. If every country learns from Netherland’s experience, there will be no problems with air pollution.
On the other hand, the public transport is necessary part of city citizens. A majority of people use public transport to reach the exact destination in a short time without making any effort. However, with bicycles, it would be hard to reach needed destination because not everyone knows how to ride it and not everybody loves to ride a bicycle. Therefore, the city governments should invest to public transport because the number of buses and trains are low. Thus, people are late for their needed locations and express confusion due to this issue. Growth of public transport will benefit for both citizens and the government.
In conclusion, I believe that the best way forward is to employ both strategies in tandem.
