Some individuals suggest that urban governments should invest a sufficient amount of money to increase cycling in cities, while another group of people thinks that cities should improve their public transport systems.
To begin with, at the current time, city governments are trying to introduce bicycle use around the world. This trend was first introduced in the 1960s, in the Netherlands. Ecologists are worried about problems with air pollution that are mainly caused by the emissions of cars, trains, and buses. Therefore, using more and more bicycles around cities can help decrease air pollution issues. For example, in the Netherlands, 50% of urban citizens use bicycles for movement around the city. This action has dramatically helped to reduce environmental problems. If every country learns from the Netherlands’ experience, there will be no problems with air pollution.
On the other hand, public transport is a necessary part of city life for citizens. A majority of people use public transport to reach their exact destination in a short time without making any effort. However, with bicycles, it would be hard to reach a needed destination because not everyone knows how to ride them, and not everybody loves to ride a bicycle. Therefore, the city governments should invest in public transport because the number of buses and trains is low. Thus, people are late for their needed locations and express confusion due to this issue. The growth of public transport will benefit both citizens and the government.
In conclusion, I believe that the best way forward is to employ both strategies in tandem.
