In recent years, many argue that the local style of old houses houses should be prioritized when constructing new houses, while others argue that people have right to build their houses as their preferred concept. In my opinion, I agree with the latter perspective because it enhances creativity and residents satisfaction.
On the one hand, it is undeniable that following the existing style of old constructions can maintain aesthetic consistency in local areas. This means that the same appearance of houses harmonizes the overall view of a town. For example, in Hoi An old town in Vietnam, some foreign coffee chains are encouraged to retain the original structures when they open a branch there. Moreover, this can also create unique cultural features that impress visitors in some tourist destinations. As a result, preserving traditional building styles may contribute to the development of the tourism industry. However, spending large sums of money to build an old-style house may disappoint the owner because ancient designs are not always eye-catching and cost-effective.
On the other hand, allowing free construction of houses can offer numerous benefits. Firstly, it is a sign of appreciating freedom where there is no restriction on imagination and creativity. In other words, they can design and decorate their own homes without limitations. Secondly, those with lower incomes can opt for more affordable structures, which can help prevent financial burdens. For example, some modern construction materials have more reasonable price, compared to wood, which is a key element in many old houses. Therefore, individuals are likely to have a higher degree of satisfaction.
In conclusion, although incentivizing newly contructed houses to follow the style of the old ones plays a crucial role in preserving cultural values and fostering tourism, I do believe that designing the properties based on homeowners’ preferences and financial capabilities would be more beneficial, as it ensures their contentment.
