Opinions diverge widely on the importance of physical strength in sports while others consider mental toughness as the key. In my opinion, mental toughness is just as important as physical strength in determining sports goals.
Success in sports requires massive physical fitness. To begin with, muscle strength and some crucial skills such as stamina, durability, and flexibility can enhance the ability to perform general sports skills to jumping or running in the majority of sports. For example, top-tier swimmers or runners must have brutal strength to finish their pace during different spots of the game to maintain their position or take the lead. Besides, most elite athletes are cautious and well-prepared in exercise and eating to build muscle, this can help them avoid injuries during training or competing. In other words, being in good physical condition enhances their ability in athletic performance.
On the other hand, those who believe that athletic success is only for their physical ones, do not see the whole world as a mental readiness to be an athlete perform well. Many top sports players such as Cristiano Ronaldo or Lin Dan devote themselves to willpower and mental preparation to gain a sense of confidence and calm regardless of pressures to keep the best performances during the game while other players might succumb. Another example of endurance sports like running or swimming where mental strength is a game-changing factor. In those cases, mental power is building up to fight boredom and tiredness and keep themselves motivated while their bodies suffer from fatigue.
In conclusion, sports players may be faced with both mental and physical difficulties on their road. Hence, they should be trained to be physically fit and solid spirit.
