There is no doubt that reading books is beneficial for children. However, some people believe that they should only read academic books, while others consider entertainment books equally important. Personally, i believe that reading for pleasure is as important for young people as reading academic materials.
The first group of people claim that by reading academic books, children can get a significant number of benefits, while if they read for fun, it is going to be a waste of time. They believe, that useful knowledge can only be gained through the academic materials, such as encyclopedias and science articles. Whereas, enjoying things as an adventure novel is a pure waste of time for younger generation, because they could have done something practical instead. Although it might be true, i still think that there are many advantages of reading for pleasure.
In contrast to the first group, other individuals tend to claim that enjoyable reading is equally important because it can help them develop a variety of different skills and built healthy relationships with books. One of their arguments is that by reading any kind of information, children can improve many skills, including concentration, which, nowadays usually lacks among kids. They also believe that restricting the access to the literature that children like may lead to the future disgust for books as they will not enjoy the process of reading.
To conclude, I would like to say that, despite some drawbacks, reading for pleasure is as crucial as discovering something from academic books, because adults should value the interests of their kids.
