There is a view that the competitiveness in schools is too high so it could harm children. Some people think that an environment that is competitive may help students to reach more achievements. The following paragraphs will discuss both opinions and give my own view.
To begin with, a competitive school environment can definitely give students serious stress, which could lead to some mental issues. If children have to compete with each other too frequently, they will compare themselves with the others. As a result, when students see that they are not as intelligent as their friends, it might cause self-doubt, anxiety and even hate school. Moreover, pushing oneself so hard is not only harmful to their mental state, but they can also be physically ill. For example, 78% of the students who experience toxic encouragement have lost their motivation to study.
On the other hand, a competitive environment does have some significant advantages, too. Besides studying, competitions give children more reasons to test their limits. They will have the urge to try harder in order to achieve their goals. There is a claim that seeing other people working hard will motivate individuals to continue to try their best. It is scientifically proven that a healthy surrounding environment is one of the fundamental inspirations for people.
In conclusion, competitiveness in schools brings both benefits and drawbacks to pupils. Knowing oneself limitations is the key to gain more achievements without being negatively impacted. From my perspective, I believe that schools nowadays are too tough for children.
