In contemporary digital society, social media sites like Face book, Instagram, twitter, tik tok, YouTube and threads are now become an essential part of daily life. What’s more these platforms use not just for communication, but also for sharing, user’s personal life stories, politics, educational information, entertainment. Clearly, this shows the amount of information spread and absorbed. Some argue that online communities must take responsibilities on posting false information, whereas others believe users should take control. However, it is my utmost belief that account holders and the platforms, both are accountable for such misleading information.
From one perspective, many individuals believe social media sites should be take responsible for extend of misstatement. Firstly, they influence people and motivate them to share all their personal information, political aspects, celebrity gossips and trends. As a results, for popularity people tend to share more stories. To illustrate, community sites provide money for the popularity, so individuals attempt to share more false information to gain money. Therefore, sites should restrict people from spreading unwanted contends and give awareness about the cybercrime.
From another perspective, it is often asserted by experts that technology enhance knowledge. First and foremost, they argue that these platforms provide easy access to any kind of resources such as online learning facilities, communication, social awareness, there by people who use the sites and who share the information should have their own discipline on spreading false information.
Nevertheless, as far as I’m concerned, both are answerable for such activities. In fact, online social networks should mention about misleading people under their community warning before giving access to their platforms. On top of that, it is worth highlighting that, in reality, public forget about the humanity, they should have the responsibility on spreading false information.
In conclusion, although critics contend that users along should be responsible, I strongly believe that both social media sites and individuals must share equal accountability for the spread of false information.
