Some people argue that students should be give more homework to enhance academic performance, while others believe that too much homework can be counterproductive. This essay aims to discuss both views before giving my own opinion.
On the one hand, assigning a large amount of homework can be beneficial for students’ academic achievement. Firstly, a wide range of homework exercises allows students to become familiar with different types of questions, which helps develop their analytical and problem-solving skills. In addition, regular practice reinforces what students have learned in class, enabling them to understand lessons more thoroughly. As a result, students tend to perform better in examinations and feel more confident about their academic abilities.
On the other hand, reducing the amount of homework also brings considerable advantages. One major benefit is that students have more time for self-study. During this time, they can independently explore topics, conduct research, and review lessons at their own pace, which often leads to deeper understanding and longer retention of knowledge. Furthermore, assigning less homework can significantly reduce stress among students. This prevents situations where learners rush to complete assignments merely to meet deadlines without genuinely grasping the subject matter.
In conclusion, when it comes to the issue of giving homework, there are two contrasting views as above. On the whole, I am inclined to believe that assigning less homework is a more reasonable option overall. Teachers should take this into account in order to find the most suitable teaching method.
