The nonstop progress of technologies in last decade made our lives inseparable from these innovations, even in the education sphere. From my perspective, it has more pluses in terms of enhancing accessibility and personalized learning.
On the one hand, reasons why people the against using gadgets in learning are distractions, as well as health issues. The presence of technology, such as smartphones and social media platforms, can easily distract students, reducing their focus and productivity. Moreover, continuous screen time can lead to eye strain, poor posture, and reduced physical activity. For example, pupils may spend excessive time scrolling through social media, which detracts them from their main goal—study. Likewise, according to research, over the last 10 years, the number of teenagers with poor eyesight and poor health has increased, and this has also been influenced by the large amount of screen time used.
On the other hand, using technology in education improves the availability of information and individual learning. The use of technology in learning has improved access to knowledge through online courses and digital resources. Online libraries and open educational resources provide students with unlimited learning materials. Also, they can learn from experts worldwide through webinars and online courses by using Duolingo and Zoom. Additionally, due to technology, students can now adapt educational material to suit themselves, which means they can revisit lessons at their own pace, reinforcing understanding.
To conclude, although it is undeniable that overusing devices in education has some drawbacks, I think that the benefits associated with their availability and individualized instruction are more important.
