Band 4: Some people think that the best way to reduce crime is to give longer prison sentences. To what extent do you agree? (User-Written IELTS Writing Task 2 Essay)

Many people believe that increasing prison sentences is the most productive way to minimize crimes . They says that strict punishment can terrified criminals and stop others from crimes. However I believe that longer prison sentences may help in some cases but there are more better way to reduce crimes.

Longer prison sentences may be a good solution but they do not prevent people to stop crimes.In many cases people do crimes because they are uneducated, mentally ill and addicted to drugs.it is not the best solution to put them in a jail for a long period of time for example a theif who steal food will not stop just because he has longer punishment. He need support and help not just panelty

A better way to stop crime is to focus on education,health and training.when people have jobs and they are mentally satisfied they can not do crimes. We have to focus on training prisoner to become better person.

In conclusion, giving longer prison sentences is not the best solution to stop crime, other than that we should see the main cause of crimes through education and support.
