Some people believe that the government should provide unemployed people with free mobile phones and internet access to help them find jobs. I strongly disagree with this view because this action could cause a financial burden to the government and there are better ways to help people with difficulty finding jobs.
The first major reason because that not all unemployed people lack access to the internet or mobile phones. Most of unemployed people already has their own existing devices to access information to find jobs. Provide them with more phones and internet access will be a waste and become the financial burden for the government. For example, people who just graduated from colleges has already own smartphones and reliable internet access to submit their workpapers, apply to the job vacancies, and communicate with their friends. As a result, providing unnecessary devices will not increase individuals’ chances to get jobs.
Another reason is there are many other solutions that government could offer to unemployed people to help them find the most suitable job. Some job seekers may lack of skills or capabilities that required by employers. To overcome this situation, for example, government could provide job trainings or courses to help unemployed people improve their skills and find the most suitable employers. As a result, this can be a better long-term solution for both unemployed people and the employers rather than just giving them more unnecessary devices.
In conclusion, I strongly disagree that government should provide free mobile phones and internet access to unemployed people. Although, the digital access is useful for searching jobs, it is better to allocates government spending on developing unemployed people’s long-term capabilities rather than provide unnecessary devices.
