Band 7+: Some people think that the government should strictly control the supply of fresh water, as it is a limited resource, while others it should not be regulated. Discuss both sides and give your opinion.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Water is one of the most essential resources for life on Earth. As the global population continues to grow, the demand for freshwater is also increases. This has led to a debate over whether the government should strictly control the supply of fresh water or not? In this essay, I will describe both sides of the arguments and give my opinion on how free market as well as, the government can play a significant role in the distribution of fresh water by devise some strategies.

On the one hand, those who support government control argue that fresh water is a inadequate resource that must be carefully managed. They believe that without stern regulations, the demand for water would be enhanced its supply. This could lead to water shortages and the reduction of underground aquifers. In addition, they argue that regulating the supply of fresh water would ensure that it is distributed fairly among all members of society.

On the other hand, those who oppose government control argue that water is a commodity that should be subject to market forces. They say that by allowing the market to determine the price of water, it will inspire the people to use it more efficiently. Moreover, they claim that terms and conditions would create a monopoly, which would choke innovation and lead to inefficiencies in the market.

In my opinion, while the free market can play a role in the distribution of fresh water, the government should also play a significant role in regulating it. The government should ensure the supply of water is impartially among all the citizen regardless of their ability to pay. This can be achieved through measures such as water conservation campaigns, investment in water infrastructure, and incentives for businesses to use water more efficiently. However, the government should also consider the needs of the market, and provide incentives for companies that can find ways to reduce water usage while maintaining profitability.

In conclusion, the debate over whether the government should strictly control the supply of fresh water is complex. While there are arguments on both sides, I believe that the government must play a role in regulating the supply of water to ensure that it is distributed fairly and diligently. At the same time, the government should also encourage innovation and efficiency in the market to ensure that the needs of businesses and consumers are met.
