As the population grows, individuals have been facing drinking water crisis. While some people believe that the supply of drinking water should be controlled strictly by the national authorities, as it is a limited resource, others however argue that it must be unregulated. I strongly support the latter view.
To begin with, proponents of government-controlled water supply system argue that many countries have faced water crisis in recent years, particularly due to growing population and global warming. As a result, many people around the world often struggle to find enough fresh water for their regular useage. Therefore, a government-regulated fresh water supply system might address this issue by setting a limit per house. Moreover, if national authorities intervene in water supply system, the wastage of fresh water will reduce significantly. For instance, installing a dedicated water meter for every household will definitely discourage house owners from wasting drinking water, as they will have to pay bills based on their consumption. However, purchasing new flow meters can be costly.
On the other hand, individuals who believe water supply should not be regulated argue that water is a basic need of every single life on this planet; hence, it should be free for all. Paying for fresh water will significantly increase the living costs for everyone, which would be detrimental to many middle-class people. Alternatively, the government can build a sufficient number of water treatment plants to ensure uninterrupted fresh water supply to every home. For example, many sea water treatment plants have been installed by the Odisha government in India to ensure ample supply of drinking water to the public, as we have more sea water than fresh water on earth, demonstrating the necessity of an uncontrolled clear water supply system for individuals’ well-being.
In conclusion, although many individuals suggest that the control of the government is necessary to conserve water for the future, as it will significantly reduce water wastage, I believe that the national authorities should invest more money on new tehnologies to convert raw water into drinkable fresh water because it is a basic human need.
