While some people think that the widespread use of smart devices and automation, such as for example the introduction of AI into our daily lives, has made our routines simpler and more efficient. However, their counterparts argue that it has made human beings overly dependent and less capable of solving everyday problems. Although both perspectives have merit, I strongly consider that this widespread use poses a challenge to the cognitive development of human beings, thereby creating multiple dilemmas directly linked to human evolution.
On the one hand, albeit true that the sophistication in electronic devices have resulted in a benefit in several enviroments such as traffic prediction in greater cities. Thus, calculating traffics routes in Barcelona, today is simple than it was before thanks to the direct effect of AI in traffic planning. For instance, the widespread use of Google Maps in the commute to work. Admittedly, it is a great example of an improvement.
However, on the other hand, while is certain the aforementioned, the same use of Google Maps in daily lives, has also made us dependent of an electronic device to guide us. Thus resulting in a cognitive deterioration compared to our relatives.
To conclude, it can be stated that, although AI has greater advances, as it has been mentioned previously, it also elucidates how society are over simplifying our lives, something simple as the worsening of human’s orientation poses a paradigm of how humans should interact with smart techonology and automation.
