Education has always been one of the most controversial topics in countries around the world. There are a lot of debates about what kinds of subjects should be studied to make the students prepared for their future career and further life. History is one of the lessons that has caused numerous arguments. Some people believe that educational institutions must focus on the history of their own country while others suppose that studying the culture and historical heritage of other countries is essential too as it helps to broaden students’ horizons. As for me, I have controversial mixed opinions on this topic.
On the one hand, learning about history and culture of different nationalities is extremely beneficial for young people. Firstly, most of the developed countries are cosmopolitan, thus, it’s essential to know something about the people you live with in one country and their historical heritage. Secondly, history of different countries is usually closely connected to your own country. Students wouldn’t be able to fully understand their history if they didn’t know the historical events of other countries. Finally, it’s crucial to learn that to be a well-educated person.
On the other hand, it’s absolutely impossible to learn the history of every single country due to the huge diversity of different countries and nationalities. Moreover, if the universities concentrate on the history of some countries which they consider as the most important, it could be really offensive towards others. Thus, some educational institutions choose to focus on their own country rather than studying other countries.
In conclusion, I suppose there are different sides of this issue and they must be studied carefully. It would be nice if the educational institutions could make decision based on what
specialty and faculty the student is studying and whether it is related to his future career.
