It is thought that there is no reason for concern about environmental issues since future technology will tackle them. While I admit that technology of the future will be more environmentally friendly, I am highly sceptical that this can relieve all our worries about the environment.
Admittedly, future technology is highly likely to be more eco-friendly. This is because people are becoming more and more environmentally conscious, and in response to this manufacturers are trying to come up with green methods of production. Car makers in particular are targeting zero-emission vehicles, which would greatly reduce the release of exhaust fumes into the atmosphere. Take “Tesla” as an example. The company has huge ambitions to increase its electric vehicle production even further and contribute to environmental awareness by doing so. As a result, global air pollution levels might be considerably reduced thanks to advances in technology.
However, we cannot start feeling complacent believing that technology will solve all of the environmental problems. In other words, technology itself cannot be the answer due to the fact that most of the green developments in technology have hidden side effects. For instance, electric cars, as mentioned above, are expected to abate air pollution; meanwhile, however, they are highly likely to increase the need for electricity. This means even more damage to nature, which is because most of our electricity generation methods are based on fossil fuels. At the end of the day, technology appears to create a vicious cycle in which it seems impossible to completely eliminate threats to ecology.
In conclusion, technological advancements might promise less harm to the environment, yet they may not completely solve the issues.
