Some people believe that the government should reduce the price of fruits and vegetables by giving subsidies. However, others think that the government should increase taxes on unhealthy food to encourage people to eat better. This essay will discuss both views and explain why I believe both methods are useful.
On the one hand, subsidising fruits and vegetables can help people buy healthy food more easily. Nowadays, many fresh foods are expensive, so some families choose cheaper processed food instead. If the government lowers the prices of healthy food, more people will be able to afford it. As a result, they may improve their eating habits and reduce the risk of diseases such as obesity and diabetes. In addition, farmers may also benefit from government support.
On the other hand, taxing unhealthy food can reduce its consumption. When foods like burgers, chips, and sugary drinks become more expensive, people may think twice before buying them. Moreover, the money collected from these taxes can be used to improve public health services or provide nutrition education. However, some people believe that this policy is unfair because it increases the cost of food for everyone, especially those with low incomes.
In my opinion, both policies should be introduced together. Subsidies can make healthy food more affordable, while taxes can discourage people from eating unhealthy food too often. Using both methods at the same time can help people make healthier choices and improve the overall health of the population. Therefore, I believe this is the best solution for the government.
