Personally, I consider that subsidising healthy products is a more effective way to help citizens preventing many health-related problems and make right decisions when choosing food.
There are many reasons why people support subsidies for fruits and vegetables, although taxing unhealthy food also has its pros. The main reason is that lower prices make healthy products accessible to a larger number of people, especially low-income families. As a result, consumers are more likely to purchase nutritious food and maintain a balanced diet. Moreover, people who follow a healthy diet can prevent the number of diet-related diseases such as obesity, diabetes and heart disease. This would decrease healthcare costs and improve the overall quality of life. In addition, subsidies encourage children to develop healthy eating habits from an early age, which can benefit them throughout their lives. Therefore, making healthy food more affordable is an effective way to promote public health.
