Some people argue that vertical cities are the best option, where people live and in tall buildings, while others argue that horizontal cities are better, Where there are few tall buildings. While vertical cities provide considerable benefits to overcome environmental challenges, I do believe that it is important to promote social cohision.
Without a doubt, vertical cities play a crucial role to fostering environmental sustainability. If people live in high-rise buildings , they are located close to educational centres, workplace, and healthcare facilities, thereby reducing reliance on private vehicles for commuting and running errands. As a result, they are more likely to emit lower levels of carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide or other harmful gases, all of which help to mitigate greenhouse effect and improve air quality, leading to improvement physical health and overall quality of life. This is especially beneficially for dense populated citizens are exposed severe air pollution, which can intensify the risk of respiratory illness like asthma and other health problems.
However, in my view, horizontal buildings serve as a powerful catalyst for fostering social cohesion and unity. If individuals live in low rise neighbourhoods, they are incorporated communal facilities like gardens, playgrounds, and recreational facilities, thereby enabling them to interact with people from diverse backgrounds. As a result, they are more likely to express their thoughts articulately, listen to others attentively, communicate with people effectively and develop meaningful relationships, which ultimately develops a stronger sense of camaraderie and solidarity. In a world where many individuals struggle with poor relationships because of electronic devices like television, smartphone, and gaming consoles, living in horizontal cities allow them to stronger relationships then ever before.
In conclusion, although vertical cities help to reduce environmental issues, I do believe that horizontal cities are more useful way to improve social cohesion and integrity.
