Over the past years, the state taxes have been sharply increasing. A large segment of the citizens are furious because, while they have to pay big amounts of taxes every month, they can not see any imporvement made with that money. Therefore, many of them believe that this money sholud not be taken away from them. This essay is written in order to disscus why I think paying taxes is important for the well-being of our country.
One of the main reasons of paying taxes is that in our country, we are lucky to have public healthcare. Sometimes, it might be difficult to understand that. Even though, we do not pay directly for the medical care, it has to be paid and it is realy expensive. For instance, in other countries where people have to pay for these services, bringing a baby to the world cost thousands of dollars. Without paying taxes, Spanish people should pay for medical services and, for this reason, there would we less new borns and, furthermore, there would be more deaths because not every body could afford this expenses.
Another incredible service that is paid out with taxes, are public schools. The vast majority of schools in Spain are “free” for every citizen, because the state pays for them with our money. Again, without public schools, there would be a lot of children who could not attend to this educational institutions. This, in a few decades, would end up lowering the status of our country.
On the other hand, I realize that, although most of the taxes that we pay to the state are well spend, there is an amount which is used by the politicians to benefit their images. And now, this is something that citizens can not permit and shoud manifestate against it.
As of all, paying taxes is one of the reasons that has helped us grow as a country and has given to Spain a high prestigious image. This will continue be like this as far as the money will still be spent in order to benefit the society as a whole.
