It is true that the role of women in the armed force is still a controversial statement with some people claiming that male and female can equally share the role in police force and army. However, others believe that women may not be suited to these kinds of jobs. Personally, I assume that female people can have the same ability to serve in security forces as men in many tasks.
On the one hand, there are several reasons why some individuals do not trust in women’s capacity of protecting civilians. Firstly, female people are expected to be tactful and tender. Hence, women are considered to be suitable for slight jobs such as nurse and office employees instead of heavy works such as police and soldiers. Moreover, another assumption is that women can find more difficult than men to do physical works and adapt to new environment, which are features of military occupations. For instance, there nearly is not any woman serving in the artillery, which requires physical strength and adaptability.
However, I strongly believe that it is unjust to take female’s role in protecting the country’s security for granted. History has shown that women are fully capable of performing well in military. Many female soldiers and generals in the past gained the recognition from people thanks to their contribution to their country. Additionally, nowadays, along with the development of technology, women polices and soldiers could be equipped with support gears, which allow them to complete their duties as effectively as men can. In Vietnamese armed force, many women fighters now can have ability to enroll in special units, which even is very difficult for male counterparts.
In conclusion, despite the physical shortcoming, I strongly believe that women can also play equal role as men in military and security jobs.
