An increasing number of people are suffering from stress, and it is advised that they should spend time doing nothing to deal with this problem. Despite the benefits associated with this, I think that there are much better ways to relieve stress.
Doing nothing can serve as a form of mindfulness, through which people can put their minds at rest. In some cultures, it is always practiced to overcome stress and anxiety, and they call it meditation, which is simply sitting down, closing eyes, freeing up the mind, and focusing only on breathing. A growing body of evidence shows that mindfulness can greatly reduce stress levels and anxiety if practiced on a daily basis for 10 to 15 minutes.
However, doing nothing is prone to misinterpretation. Some people might misunderstand doing nothing as passive inactivity and go for watching TV or scrolling through social media, both of which are considered the main culprits contributing to increased stress among the general public.
Instead, people should engage in activities that help them alleviate their stress and act according to their individual preferences. For example, some people take a stroll in the park when stressed out, while others prefer to read a book or connect with their loved ones. Additionally, it is advisable for stressed people to spend time in nature. Hiking to forests and natural parks is the best way to be immersed in nature and manage stress, but people living in urban areas may not have access to this luxury. Therefore, they should find green spaces, parks, and botanical gardens.
In conclusion, there are many ways of stress management. Although doing nothing can be of great help, I think that it may be misinterpreted, and for this reason, people should go for other options, such as engaging in favorite activities or spending time close to nature.
