The debate over whether messages should be sent to the potentially intelligent life-forms beyond the Earth has become commonplace among individuals, particularly scientists and enthusiasts alike. While some would argue for the possible benefits from reaching out to extraterrestrial beings on several galaxies, others, including myself, would contend that interstellar communication might result in several obnoxious consequences which hold risks to humanity’s safety and our well-being.
To commence, proponents of interstellar communication put a reasonable forward on their side. Firstly, they argue that if communication between the population of the Earth and extraterrestrial entities is disseminated successfully, there might be a plethora of discoveries in several domains of human agency. For example, the exploration of the theory called the Drake Equation, which is based on the fact that there are lots of existential life-forms on the universe or habitable places, might be backed up with such a terrific scientific finding. Besides, it’s almost obvious that as we are very curious beings, do not we have the right to make an attempt to find what kinds of beings are living outside the Earth apart from us? Sure we do. Not only would initiating contact with other intelligent life-forms become a very terrific scientific discovery, but it would also bring an answer to several questions that people are struggling to find.
Despite the valid concerns raised by supporters, I, however, argue that attempts to initiate contact with unknown creatures outside the Earth might be hazardous and bring about a great deal of dangers to mankind. The first idea to consider is the fact that scientists and individuals trying to connect to extraterrestrial creatures do not consider the mysterious nature of such existences. No one would guarantee the safety of the Earth and its population after sending signals to other galaxies with the aim of communicating with them. The dissemination of communication might go in vain and trigger other creatures’ hostile and aggressive response to the humanity. Moreover, critics raise concerns about the potential for exploitation of the Earth and the people living in it. Having reached out to other intelligent existences, we might get our location noticed and, as I wrote above the fact that we don’t have proper data on what their intentions are, so we cannot know what would happen over our planet by those unknown beings.
In conclusion, although there are several valid reasons for interstellar communication, I believe that the potential dangers that occur afterwards should not be overlooked. After the proper investigation of intentions of other creatures outside our galaxy, the signals to reach out to them might be considered to send.
