The immense advancements in technology made it easier for scientists to further their space exploration missions. Some speculated the possible existence of intelligent life forms on foreign planets and suggested that it would be the right time to send messages to make contact, while others proclaimed that it would be a bad idea considering the potential risks of inviting unknown species. In my opinion, both these arguments are equally true. This essay will explore both perspectives before offering mine.
It is indeed true that attracting unknown species poses various problems. One key reason is trust. If we do contact them, we cannot rule out the fact that their intentions may or may not be favourable to us. For example, if the species is highly intellectual, it might suppress humans which could lead to global destruction and wars. Thus, this example demonstrates the possible negative effect of a situation.
On the other hand, this can be perceived optimistically. Some scientists argue that it has significant benefits that outweigh these risks. Recent studies in space travel concluded that there is a possibility of improving space travel missions by harnessing the sun’s energy. For instance, we could learn to negotiate with these species and take their help in advancing the existing research methods of space travel. Many such intense methods require further research.
Having considered both sides of the argument, contacting intelligent species on other planets may offer exciting opportunities for discovery, but, I believe that the potential risks far outweigh the benefits.
In conclusion, caution should be exercised to avoid attracting unknown dangers. Although both arguments are equally evident, I feel that it is unnecessary to invite danger on purpose.
