Nowadays, many high school graduates prefer working or traveling before embarking on their journey in university. Some individuals claim that working is more beneficial than traveling, while others put forward the advantages of traveling. I believe both views are justifiable, but I mostly agree with advocates of traveling.
Either work or travel can have some advantages for students. It is undeniable that while traveling, students can have the unique opportunity of experiencing cultural diversity, engaging in customized activities, socializing with different people, and learning about a variety of beliefs. At work, they can acquire academic and mostly practical experiences in the field of their proposed position, helping them to boost their resume and providing them with a deeper and more realistic knowledge. In addition, accumulating work experience can assist them in their academic subjects, as studies claim that previous knowledge can ease the technical or complex materials of certain subjects. Also, from an early age they can have the opportunity of building adequate financial security.
However, it is my belief that choosing to travel before entering university is more beneficial for high school students. Because after years of studying in an academic atmosphere, dealing with stress and anxiety, it is time for a short relief and storing more energy for starting another level of academic education. I propose that working after high school can cause burnout, more fatigue, and less focus. Also, students can have the opportunity of working in better positions after graduation from university or while studying, but they may have no spare time to travel the world.
In conclusion, as it is up to each individual to choose either traveling or working, although both have a variety of advantages, in my opinion, touring around the world before starting an academic journey is more favorable and essential.
