Band 8+: Some think that governments should support retired people financially while others believe they should take care of themselves. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Some people believe that our governments should provide financial assistance to the elderly because they face many challenges, such as aging. Others argue that elderly individuals should take care of their own expenses. In my opinion, the government should take action to support those who are struggling with these issues.

To begin with, many elderly individuals encounter various challenges in their lives, often relying solely on government assistance to cover their expenses. Retired people frequently experience financial difficulties, which is why government support is crucial for the elderly. Such sectors should prioritize aid for those who truly need it, ensuring that resources are allocated appropriately. This kind of support helps position older individuals as role models in society. For example, in our country, programs like the ‘Vridha Pension Yojana’ provide financial assistance to senior citizens after they retire, helping them manage their expenses effectively.

On the other hand, many people believe that elderly individuals should be responsible for their own well-being and should use their savings to meet their needs. They argue that the system should not subsidize these individuals but rather allocate funds to areas such as education, transportation, and other essential services. For instance, money spent on elderly care could be redirected to enhance the academic and safety systems, which need more resources to benefit society as a whole.

In conclusion, while the government should provide assistance to the elderly, it is also essential for elderly individuals to be proactive in managing their lives. Ultimately, a combined effort from both the government and the elderly will lead to a more sustainable and supportive environment.
