Nowadays, it’s poplular for young people to emulate the behavior and clothes of celebrities. Analysing this case we will see a range of effects it may cause.
The main cause is that young adults tend to seek attention and recognition from their peers in their social circles. With the development of technology, glamorous and perfect images of famous people are easy to find on social platforms, so that young people are easy to be affected and more likely to imitate their behaviours and fashion choices. In fact, many children and teenagers are willing to spend time finding stylish outfits, popular fashion trends and also behave like their idols. From their point of view, if they do that, they will able to gain social approval as celebrities.
However, this trend has brought some problems to young people. Firstly, trying to mimic the lifestyle of well-known makes them not pay attention to their own lives. They just simply care about external appearances, pursue superficial value rather than focusing on their own personal growth. Secondly, because celebrities’ clothes are very expensive, young people may face financial problem if they try to buy them, especially if they come from low-income family. Some teens even force their parents to buy them expensive clothes to imitate their idols. Thirdly, several influencers are known for negative behaviors, such as: substance abuse, impaired driving, or unhealthy dieting practices. If young people look up to celebrities as role models, they tend to do those risky behaviors.
To conclude, copying famous people may lead to many negative problems in teens’ lives, so they should mimic selectively and under the direction of adults.
