Band 8+: Space travel has been possible for some time. Some people think space tourism could be developed in the future which can help to develop countries' economies. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Venturing into space has long been a longstanding aspiration of humanity. The launch of Apollo 11 marked a pivotal moment in the history of space exploration. In the contemporary era, with the rapid advancement of technology, there is a growing discourse surrounding the potential for space tourism. This presents a significant opportunity for space enterprises to generate substantial profits, thereby contributing to the overall economic growth of nations. From my perspective, I unequivocally endorse the idea of developing space tourism.

A case in point is Blue Origin, a prominent aerospace manufacturer, which recently propelled four commercial astronauts into outer space, signaling the onset of the expansion of space tourism. Notably, in 2021 alone, the space tourism industry contributed $598 million to the global economy amidst budgetary constraints imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic. Despite the lockdowns that resulted in stagnation across various sectors, the resilience of the space tourism industry showcased its potential for substantial revenue generation, and it is forecasted to become a trillion-dollar industry in the near future. Observing the successes of the emerging space tourism sector, investors from affluent countries such as the UAE, the USA, and India are making strides in financing these space projects.

While space programs have flourished, there are lingering concerns regarding the safety of space expeditions. The ‘Challenger Disaster’ serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with space tourism, leading many experts to express apprehension. However, without the audacity and occasional boldness of humankind, the profound and mysterious beauty of the universe would have remained undiscovered. Furthermore, scientists have dedicated substantial efforts to mitigate the hazards associated with space travel, ensuring the safety of space expeditions. It is also anticipated that, in the foreseeable future, the cost of space travel will become more affordable, enabling humanity to delve deeper into outer space and satisfy our insatiable thirst for knowledge.

To conclude, space tourism is not merely a leisure activity but also a catalyst for technological advancement, propelling humanity into uncharted territory. It is imperative for countries to consider the potential economic benefits of developing space tourism while conscientiously addressing the associated safety concerns.
