Band 7+: Studies suggest that many teenagers these days prefer socialising online to meeting one another in person. Why do you think this is the case? What measures could be taken to encourage teenagers to spend more time meeting one another in person?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

These days, an increasing number of research indicates that many young people tend to interact with others through the Internet compared to meeting face-to-face. In this essay, I would like to analyze the causes of such a trend and the methods that could be taken to deal with it.

The reasons for such a tendency, in my mind, are due to its benefits. With the rapid progress of technology and busy personal schedules, juveniles prefer socializing via the Internet. Online interactions can help people connect with others without going outside, thus allowing them to have more time to do other things. Moreover, socializing online helps the youth save money as they don’t have to spend money on transportation fees.

Despite the benefits of interacting via social media, it is undeniable that we can be threatened by a great number of health issues and the breakdown of social bonds due to prolonged Internet use. Frankly, several measures could be taken to tackle this problem. As teenagers typically have to rely on their parents for financial support, parents can limit the time they use devices in order to force them to spend time going outside rather than chatting all day. In addition, educational programs at school should address Internet use for students since they need to be taught about the harms of over-using social platforms.

To conclude, despite the perks of technological devices, we have to acknowledge their threat to our health and our relationships. However, parental monitoring and education can help us strike a balance between socializing through social networks and maintaining health and relationships in real life.
