Transportation of products and people is one of the biggest contributors of pollution worldwide. While some argue that governments should take accountability to solve this issue, others believe that it is the responsibility of individuals. In my opinion, although both parties are responsible, governments should take the lead as they have more authority and resources to create large scale changes.
On the other hand, governments are responsible for solving transportation-related pollution because they can introduce effective laws and infrastructure. Firstly, they can invest in environmentally friendly transportation systems such as electric busses, railways and cycling lanes. As a result, people can rely less on private vehicles, which would significantly reduce carbon emissions. Secondly, governments can implement a stricter regulation on factories and shipping companies. For instance, encouraging the use of electric cars and imposing higher tax on fuel-intensive vehicles can motivate citizens and businesses to adopt greener alternatives. Since pollution is a global issue, coordinated national policies are more effective than individual actions alone.
On the other hand, individuals also have responsibility to reduce pollution. Personal choices, such as using public transportation, cycling, walking, or utilizing electric vehicles, can make a major difference. In addition, consumers can also support local products instead of imported goods, which can reduce international shipping and reducing carbon footprints. Individuals who actively adopt environmentally friendly lifestyles can also inspire people around them to follow similar habits, creating greater public awareness.
In conclusion, I believe both governments and individuals share responsibility for reducing transportation pollution. However, I believe government play the more significant role. Nevertheless without corporation from individuals, these measures may not reach maximum effectiveness.
