Some people believe that young individuals who commit crimes should be treated differently and that the law should not be applied equally across all ages. However, I disagree with this view due to the importance of fairness and equality before the law.
First of all, everyone has the same rights under the law. Every crime has a victim who deserves justice, regardless of the perpetrator’s age. For instance, if a young person commits murder and is released because the law protects them due to their age, it would be unfair to the victim. Such a situation would not create a deterrent effect for the perpetrator and could lead to a generation with the perspective that it is acceptable to commit crimes if you are young.
Furthermore, even underage criminals must take responsibility for their actions. There should be no leniency in the law simply because they are underage. Allowing this could contribute to a significant rise in crimes committed by young people. For example, in many countries, when bullying is carried out by teenagers, the law often states that they should be exempt from punishment. As a result, bullying cases have increased, as minors do not have to worry about facing consequences for their actions because they are protected by the law.
In conclusion, the law should not treat underage individuals differently from adults, as everyone has the same rights and responsibilities under the law. If someone is bold enough to commit a crime, regardless of their age, they should be held accountable according to legal regulations.
