In this day and age, the proliferation of entertaining games on portable devices has sparked controversy among people. Despite believing in some benefits of this application, I am convinced that the presence of electronic games on portable gadgets can harm people and society.
On the one hand, this game category encourages people to boost their imagination, which serves as a positive phenomenon. As many prevalent games have been designed beautifully to attract players, people, especially children and students who major in digital design, can be facilitated to foster imagination through figures and visuality. Thus, their brain may be boosted to stay healthy, and they can also embrace their imagination to work and study more efficiently.
Notwithstanding the mentioned upsides, I am still convinced that the appearance of recreational games can harm people and society in several ways, especially with excessive screen time. Firstly, individuals may be distracted from work or study due to the attraction of electronic games. Particularly, many game creators have integrated some planned elements and attractive visuals into games, so people tend to engage in them and spend much time in front of the screen. Thus, they may procrastinate their work and study to finish some virtual missions, which causes the game addiction rate to rise. Therefore, in the worst-case scenario, some societal problems such as pickpocketing, fraud, and burglary may occur to gain money for games, driving the community to come up with both stopgap and long-term measures for these issues. Secondly, too much time spent on electronic games on portable devices also leads to eye problems like short-sightedness. It is reported that most technological gadgets have been equipped with blue light screen, which serves as a culprit for eye weakness among people.
In conclusion, in spite of appreciating some advantageous aspects of electronic games, I would believe that this can lay a foundation for many problems for both people and the whole society.
