The bar charts below show the percentage of people who were born in and outside Australia living in cities, towns and rural areas between 1995 and 2010. It is clear from the data provided that the majority of people live in cities irrespective of their origin of birth. This is true for both years.

For people born in Australia, the proportion of people living in cities changed from around 50 per cent in 1995 to just over 60 per cent in 2010.

A significant variation was observed for the residents of rural areas as their percentage reduced from around 30 per cent in 1995 to below 20 per cent in 2010. However, the percentage of people living in towns remained similar, decreasing from 20 per cent to 15 per cent across years.

For people born outside Australia, a major percentage increase (around 20 per cent) occurred for the inhabitants of cities. The percentage of rural residents, however, accounted for the largest difference across all categories. This number decreaseed from 40 per cent to around 5 per cent. A magnitude of 35 per cent.
