Band 4+: The bar chart below shows estimated world illiteracy rates by region and by gender for the last year. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant

The bar chart illustrates the previous year our planet’s illiteracy rates specified by the region and by gender.

In general, Females contributed to larger number of illiteracy rates percentage compared to males, and South Asia stands for the first place of illiteracy rates for both males and females. whereas, Developed countries contributed the lowest percentage of illiterates for both genders.

The top 3 illiteracy rate percentages for males contributed by South Asia, Sub-sharan Africa and Arab States respectively. Whereas, for females are the same continents with different orders, which is South Asia, Arab states and Sub-Saharan Africa. The least literacy rate contributors for males are Developed countries, East Asia and Latin American with an increasing order. On the other hand, the least contributors for females are Oceania, Caribbean and Developed countries are in descending order.

In East Asia, the percentage of male illiteracy rates are almost half of the percentage of female illiteracy rates. In both Arab States and South Asia, the bar chart shows the percentage of illiteracy rates of females are 20% higher than of the males. Finally, in the comparison of the percentage of illiteracy rates of males and females of Caribians shows almost an equivalent bars.
