In this selfish world, everyone loves free things, whether the item or service is useful for them or not. Traffic congestion is the biggest issue all around the world nowadays. The government provides free public transport, such as trains and buses, 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, to solve the traffic problem. To a larger extent, I disagree with this idea, because there are also many other important areas where the government needs to spend its money.
To begin, traffic congestion is the most serious problem all around the world. Recently, traffic jams have been increasingly prevalent in major cities, but this does not mean the government should provide free public transport facilities. Because many other factors, such as hospital care, poor children’s education, and student scholarships, are very useful to human life. Hospital care and education are the most important areas for the government to invest its money. Secondly, many people like to drive. Many people do not like to travel on crowded transport, and some people like to travel in their own vehicles. They go out with their family and friends; they spend some alone time with them. Third, in public transport, some citizens misbehave; some destroy their seats, and many people even spit. According to me, the government should not provide a free transport system.
Furthermore, free public transport is a waste of money, because when the government provides free benefits or facilities, many people come to take advantage of that facility. Even if the government provides free facilities in public transport, often the elderly and pregnant women do not get a proper place to sit. According to me, instead of providing free facilities, the government should make some rules, strictly enforce them, and keep ticket prices low so that all the people of the country can use public transport.
Conversely, when everybody uses public transport, many serious problems, such as pollution from traffic congestion, can be kept under control.
To conclude, free transport is not good for the government or its citizens, and it is impossible to provide 100% free public transportation.
