In this contemporary era, the solutions for environmental degration have been a perennial debate, garnering considerable public attention. It is widely asserted that increasing the expenses of fuel for cars and other vehicles are the most optimal way to tackle the world’s environmental issue. Personally, I disagree with this statement, which will be elaborated in this piece of writing.
Admittedly, there are several compelling reasons for the effectiveness in raising the cost of fuel for private transport. Firstly,
raising the cost of transporting fuel is synonymous with mitigating the demand for private transports among commuters, thus boosting the use of public transport while mitigating air contamination. Additionally, because fuel acts as a vital input in production activities, the increase in fuel prices results in the rise in related expenditures including going prices in the market. This can significantly lessen the overall consumption and production rates, therefore minimizing the exploitation of natural resources as well as the disposal of industrial waste in factories.
However, I hold the belief that increasing the cost of fuel is not the best solution for environmental problems. First and foremost, the rise in fuel prices only effectively reduces the usage of private transport among commuters from middle or lower-class backgrounds, while it can still be prevalent among well-off people. This may unwittingly become an economic burden on people with less privileges, hence exacerbating socio-economic disparities. Additionally, there are numerous ways to tackle environmental issues besides increasing prices of fuel. To illustrate, it is the investment in publicly funded researches to facilliate the switch to alternative energy, making it more affordable and widely applicable that alleviates the deterioration of the environment. Moreover, it is also imperative for people to be engaged in recycling on a regular basis as well as in environmental campaigns such as planting trees on a large scale.
In conclusion, while the increase in fuel prices is deemed to be an effective solution for environmental issues, I fimrly believe that it is not the most optimal way due to its unwanted repercussions and other viable solutions.
