Cultures are becoming more similar all over the world. There are several reasons for this. In this essay, I will explain why cheap air travel and growing tourism are the reasons for this trend and in my opinion, this is a positive trend as it promotes a peaceful multicultural environment.
Firstly, cheap flights make it easier for people to travel to other countries when they can afford it. In this way, people will explore new traditions and exchange their customs with the locals. Moreover, they not only expand their knowledge about other cultures but also spread that knowledge to their own cultural groups. The public shares each other’s beliefs and thus, adapts to these beliefs. For example, since Air India has become budget-friendly, more foreigners have visited the Golden Temple of Amritsar during Diwali. In addition, these people have also started celebrating Diwali in their own countries.
Secondly, the governments of many states are spending a lot of money on tourist attractions to attract more tourists from abroad. In fact, they are introducing discounted holiday packages and promoting them all over the world. Moreover, these tourist attractions represent the culture of a country and influence foreign tourists. For example, the Government of India has spent millions of rupees on the Jaipur Museum as it is one of the biggest tourist destinations in India, which showcases Indian jewellery. Thus, Indian jewellery has been introduced following the American trend.
Lastly, this is a great development that leads to good things as it promotes a multicultural environment. By sharing each other’s cultural heritage, people develop good understanding and live together peacefully.
In short, cultural convergence is taking place in many countries due to affordable flights and the development of tourist resorts, and it leads to positive development as it encourages peace and understanding among people living in diverse societies.
