In the contemporary era, the crime rate is increasing at an alarming rate. A plethora of people belive that the authorities should use death penalty for people committing serious crimes. Although some are of the opinion that it is not the best method. I partially agree with this notion. This essay will address both schools of thought and provide a suitable conclusion.
To begin with, it is vital to punish those who commit crimes. The government ought to enforce strict laws in order to prevent lawlessness. Death sentence is one the best way to prevent crimes such as murders and rapes. This will make the society threatened of the consequences that they will face if they do so. Hence, people will think twice prior to commit these crimes. Furthermore, the government invest quite a huge amount every year for the prisoner’s welfare. They can instead spend the same amount of money on the citizens of their country which will lead to greater revenue collection.
On the contrary, death penalty is not the only way to control crime rate. Instead of killing a person at once the authorities should prefer life imprisonment. This way the criminals will always be guilty for their sins. Additionally, it is better to jail someone rather than to hang them since, they might be apologetic for their mistakes and want to change it. If someone wishes to do so the government should support the person to change themselves. This will lead to better and harmonious society.
