The given diagrams depict the percentage of means of transportation chose by commuters in four categories namely bus, car, bike, and foot in Europe between 1950 to 1990.
Overall, the proportion of foot and bike experienced a downward trend, whilst car witnessed an upward trend from 1950 onwards.
As is shown by the diagrams, the rate of people who walked in 1950, comprised approximately 40%, while bike users were responsible for near 30%. Furthermore, in 1970 these rates were in decline, accounting for about 20%. Similarly, this amount finally reached around 5%, a quarter of percent that was in 1970.
By contrast, the number of drivers who used card took up from 5% to 25% in 1970, rising further roughly 40% in 1990. Turning to the bus passengers, this figure fluctuated during this period, which was responible for almost 15% in 1950 to about 25% after two decades. However, in 1990 transporting by bus fell to near 15%, nearly the same rate in 1950.
