In recent times, as mass media continues to spread globally and international travel becomes more convenient, people can discover more about the ways of life in other countries. I advocate the view that notable benefits of this tendency outweigh minor drawbacks.
Admittedly, among the nominal downsides of international travel and media distribution, there is a fact that mass media do not always show the real information about countries. News and entertainment often portray countries in an exaggerated or misleading way, creating stereotypes rather than a true representation. This negative aspect leads to another: people may develop unrealistic expectations, seeing only the best parts of other countries. Consequently, this idealized image can make people dissatisfied with their own country. The final marginal pitfall is the loss of cultural identity, as people adopt foreign trends and habits, local traditions may start to disappear.
Nevertheless, despite the disadvantages above, I endorse the notion that the accessibility of international travel and increased amount of information in the media have more significant benefits. Firstly, it provides opportunities for visiting different countries, which enables people to experience new locations and cultures. Secondly, the previous advantage is connected to another: access to international media and travel allows people to learn about various traditions and customs, which promotes cultural awareness and deeper understanding. Thirdly, this development encourages tolerance and open-mindedness, given that seeing diverse lifestyles through media and travel helps people broaden their mindset.
In conclusion, the positive aspects of the increasing possibility of international travel and unlimited access to media sources, such as more opportunities for discovery, tends to outweigh some inconsequential downsides.
