Many individuals argue that the increase in multinational corporations and internationalization bring significant advantages for people. While I agree with that view, there are still specific disadvantages of this phenomenon.
On the one hand, the positive effects of international companies and globalization are undeniable. First of all, the increase in international corporations also increases job opportunities for people in that country and boosts its country’s economy. Moreover, with these chances, people could find a job in an international environment which would also help them improve their communication and language skills. Furthermore, globalization also has advantages for the corporations of many countries such as strengthening diplomatic relations between nations and also enhances cultural exchange. For example, the explosion of many streaming platforms such as Netflix and Youtube helps millions of viewers easily access many cinema products such as Hollywood movies and multinational music such as K-Pop at their homes.
On the other hand, global integration also erodes cultural identity. The invasion of many international brands and global media from such as the USA or from western countries poses a risk of cultural assimilation and can make young people lose their connection with traditional customs and culture. For instance, the appearance of various fast food chains such as McDonald’s or KFC in Vietnam has gradually changed eating habits and makes traditional local food facing competition and slowly losing its position.
In conclusion, worldwide integration and multinational companies have brought significant benefits for the workforce, for cultural exchange and also for national relations. However, if the cultural exchange develops in a negative way, it can lead to the gradual erosion of local identities.
