There are some issues related to the common of misinformation negatively affecting both individuals and the community; however I believe government and each resident will come up to some solutions in order to tackle it.
Two mains problems can arise from the misinformation, namely misperceptions and the wrong attitude of citizens. The main reason given to support this claim is that when individuals believe fake news, the tend to form completely false beliefs. Accordingly, people will react or think based on their beliefs, which leads to some detrimental consequences for health and social harmony. For instance, in some countries, such as Vietnam, people have intentions to believe fake news or videos about unverified medical treatments widely spreaded on Facebook, which results in not curing one’s illness but even making the existing ones more serious. Moreover, spreading fake news about the government also triggers civil unrest, protests, and even riots against the government. Therefore, social and national security will be under threat.
Some possible measures which can be taken to deal with this problem are raising people’s awareness about the negative effects of fake news and considering a range of viewpoints By launching campaigns about the negative impacts of fake news and the way how individual verify news, organizations contribute to raising people’s perception in preventing the spread of fake news. For example, extracurricular programs can limit this gap by providing students, who are often navigating social media and online platforms with tools and knowledge to critically evaluate information. Besides, individuals can protect themselves from disinformation by listening to a diversity of opinions. Relying upon a small number of like-minded news sources can distort the perspective of people and increases the odds they may fall victim to false rumors.
In conclusion, the spread of unofficial information has negative effects on individuals and society. However, we can limit this phenomenon by organizing campaigns to raise public awareness and listening to different sources of opinion.
