Many people argue that the government is wasting a significant amount of country financial resources by spending it on outer-space life discovery, where it should be used for other public critical issues. In my opinion, I completely agree with this statements due to the unnecessarily-high costs needed from this projects, which the money should be allocated for current social issues instead.
Finding an extraterrestrial being would take an enormous amount of taxpayer funds without any significant results. In order to build a safe spaceship or high-range telescope for the purpose, years of researches as well as trial and error are required. In addition, hiring top-notch scientists and exploring various development materials consume lot of money. At the same time, this project has a high failure rate due to its high level of uncertainty . As a result, the government requires a substantial percentage of the nation’s funds to cover the project costs.
On the other hand, the same amount of money can help address various social issues. Problems such as world hunger or healthcare issues are currently still happening in the developed countries. Ensuring the life of the country’s population is more important rather than trying to discover uncertain form of life in the other planets. Without any involvements, these issues will be left out unsolved.
All in all, I wholeheartedly agree that spending a lot of money on searching life on other planets is a waste due to how unnecessarily expensive it is. Instead, the government should be focusing on the public issues, such as hunger and healthcare.
