Band 4+: The graph below gives information about the percentage of the population in four Asian countries living in cities from 1970 to 2020, with predictions for 2030 and 2040. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The line graph illustrates the ratio of city dwellers of the four Asian countries between 1970 and 2020, considering the prediction for the year of 2030 & 2040.

Overall, the upward trend of the population is found in every country during the period of 70 years. Philippines & Thailand have the lower growth rate while the higher rate is experienced in Indonesia & Malaysia in discussed periods.

Regarding the urban residence, the rate was growing steadily until 1990 in case of all four countries. After that in case of Philippines, the rate dropped approximately 10% in next 20 years whether the rate was on peak in other three countries. In the later 10 years & predicted 20 years the percentage of city people in Philippines will climb just over 50%.

Initially the rate of Malaysian city people was less than Philippines, but it jumped almost 45% in last 50 years and will surged further and cross 80% at the end of 2040.

The pattern of growth also found in Thailand & Indonesia, where the later country was below the first one initially, but in 2000 the rate of Indonesia crossed Thailand & surge later over 55%. In Thailand, the gradual increase was found & in will reach close to 40% after the estimated 2040.
