Online shopping has gained tremendous popularity in recent times. It is believed my many people that in the future, rapid growth of online shopping would result in closure of local shops in towns and cities. This essay will discuss why the growth of online shopping will not affect the local businesses.
First of all, I believe that in-store purchasing of items give people a different shopping experience altogether. Even though in-store shopping requires a bit of extra time that is to be spent on walking through various aisles within a store, it gives a visual way to pick and choose products. For instance, when buying fruits and vegetables, I personally prefer to check and feel each item before putting it in my cart. In online shopping, for such items, only quantity or weight may be defined during shopping and after that one can really hope that they will get the right item they are expecting. Considering these facts, I think stores and shops provide this choice which appeals to customers who are very picky in buying certain products.
Secondly, in store shopping gives people a reason a to go outside of routine and perform a reasonably interesting activity. Many people perform nine to five jobs, come back home, cook, eat and then sleep. Especially in winters, when there is snow everywhere, people do not have many options of outdoor activities. Visiting local shops for grocery allow people to escape routine and indulge in some sort of physical activity. This change in their environment keeps them happy, and they do not get bored as they do when they are picking items from home.
This essay discussed few reasons why the growth of online shopping will not affect in-store shopping and why it will still remain relevant in the future. In-person shopping experience and the ability to select items on will are few of the reasons which will keep the interest of people in local stores and shops.
