No doubt we are living in a rapidly changing world, technology has made its way to give us the convenience of doorstep delivery in almost everything from groceries to furniture. Therefore, many people believe that it may reduce the number of stores in cities and towns. I think this convenience is likely to be limited till the younger generation, as many older people are still struggling to use the latest advances in technology.
On the one hand, most of us live fast paced life and, because of that we often do not have time to complete daily errands by travelling to stores. The rise in online shopping gave people leverage to get stuff delivered to their doorsteps rather than stressing and hunting the stores to find the best things. Moreover, Online shopping has made a huge difference for disabled people as they do not have to worry about travelling outside often, especially during harsh weather conditions. For instance, A recent survey from Amazon showed a hike in the number of online orders in Canada and Australia during winter times because of bad weather conditions.
On the other hand, some individuals like to follow old-school methods of visiting stores. Several reasons behind this are older generation is not so familiar with the latest technology and privacy concerns for sharing personal details during online shopping are not so much favoured by many folks. Therefore, not all the shops and stores will be closed shortly as many people like to visit the store and buy things as they believe it is a safer and reliable option for them.
To conclude, the rise in online shopping is a terror for many local shops in cities. However, the country’s older population is still struggling to keep up with the latest advancements. Therefore, I believe physical shops will survive as long as we have an older generation and it won’t fade anytime soon.
