Band 8+: The international community must act immediately to ensure all nations reduce the consumption of fossil fuels (gas and oil). To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Opinions are divided on whether immediate action should be taken to ensure that all countries reduce their consumption of fossil fuels. I agree with this view because such action can help tackle environmental problems and prevent the depletion of non-renewable energy sources.

Advocates of taking immediate action contend that reducing fossil fuel use plays a crucial role in addressing the escalating environmental crisis. The exploitation of these resources often releases toxic gases and hazardous waste, poisoning ecosystems and accelerating climate-related disasters such as deforestation and flooding. A striking example is an oil spill. When oil production facilities are damaged, large quantities of crude oil can leak directly into the ocean, contaminating marine habitats and causing the death of countless sea creatures. Without decisive intervention, these destructive practices will continue to degrade the planet and endanger all forms of life.

Another compelling reason for this approach is that non-renewable energy sources are on the verge of depletion because of the world’s excessive consumption. Although these energy sources harm the environment, they remain vital for producing essential goods and technologies, which has led to their endless exploitation and use on a massive scale. For instance, in Viet Nam, the government has replaced depleting energy sources such as coal and oil with renewable and sustainable alternatives like solar, wind, and hydro power. By doing so, the country can both preserve finite energy reserves and promote the development of more environmentally friendly resources. If these non-renewable sources become fully depleted, it will lead to severe and far-reaching problems that could ultimately hinder national and global development.

In conclusion, the international community must take urgent and coordinated action to reduce the use of fossil fuels in order to mitigate environmental degradation and prevent the depletion of non-renewable resources. Only through collective responsibility and decisive policies can nations secure a sustainable future for the planet.
