Many people from all over the world use the internet to communicate with each other. However, others believe it can also create a gap in actual socialization and make people feel lonely. I do agree that internet increases the opportunity to stay in touch, especially for friends and family who live apart from each other. Moreover, I also agree that certain human beings feel alone because they do not have to leave their houses anymore.
The internet significantly improves the communication between families and friends who live in different countries. Only a few decades ago humanity could only communicate on great distance by pen and paper. Letters had to be made, send, and delivered. This process, depending on where to other receiver lived, could take days, weeks or even months. Nowadays, the internet provides great convenience in how quickly we can receive information, personal updates like emails, videos and photos. There are even many different social platforms to utilize, like Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp.
On the other hand, the internet provides so many services that certain human beings do not have to leave their houses and perhaps experience loneliness. The use of these different services discourages people to go outside. For example, instead of people actually having to leave their homes for work and shopping: Society is able to work from home and order food and clothing from online websites. I believe that this may account for feeling isolated and discourages social interactions.
In conclusion, expat friends and family members are able to use the internet and online connection to stay in touch with their social network in a very convenient way. However, nowadays people are able to work and socialize from their own environment which may lead to loneliness.
